Glow In The Dark Recap

My shoulders hurt from throwin my hands up so much last night. Lol.

Glow In The Dark tour was hands down the best concert I've ever been to front to back. Most shows the opening acts aren't really worth it. Here, every artist put on a hot performance and if you missed it, you are stupid. I had a few transportation problems so I missed the first half of Lupe's performance, but of what I saw he killed it anyway. NERD was crazy. The energy they have on stage is amazing. That was the first time I've seen NERD live and they are all over the place. Pharrell jumps around and swings his arms like crazy, but he's dancing and rocking out harder than the crowd! He really puts a lot of energy into the performance. Plus the NERD stage band is from here in Philly so you know they were going extra hard. Then Rihanna came on, and I'm not even the biggest fan of Rihanna, but she put on a good performance. She has improved her live performance so much since she started, hitting notes she could never hit before outside of a studio. Plus her costumes were all that. I really wish I was close enough to have good pictures.

And then there was Kanye West. If you haven't seen the show, I'm just going to say it was A-Fucking-Mazing.

**Warning: Spoiler! If you don't to want read any spoilers, I suggest you stop reading right now because I took detailed notes during the show lol.** The show was like watching a movie. The performance starts out with Kanye telling the story of how he is earth's last hope to explore the universe. He's been on this journey for 12 months, 18 days, 11 hours and 32 minutes. Real Star Trek type stuff. All of a sudden his ship wanders off course into an asteroid field and gets hit. He crashes on an unknown planet and the stage goes dark. The stage looks like another planet! There is only one flat part, the rest looks exactly like Mars or something, elevated hills and rocks, a mountain range in the back, and a massive video screen that constantly changes from sky to storms to outer space, and at times his computer, Jane. He's also got a separate video screen directly behind him that comes in and out during the show that he can directly interact with. Usually it's Jane.

The lights come up and Kanye is just lying on the stage knocked out from the crash, and Jane says, "Wake up Mr. West... Wake Up Mr West... ." The crowd is going crazy and as he starts to wake up, Good Morning starts playing. After that song, he asks Jane where they are, can they get home, etc. Her answers are all "unknown," and he goes into I Wonder. From I Wonder, to Heard 'Em Say, to Get 'Em High.

After those three, Jane reminds him, "Remember Mr. West, this isn't your first crash." OMG the beat for Through The Wire drops, and I fucking lost my mind. Everyone in the crowd knows every word to that song. I mean, how can you not? From Through The Wire, the lyric "...swear i should be locked up for stupid shit that i did/ but i'm a CHAMPION" and the beat for Champion drops. Lost my mind! Again! From Champion he goes into Diamonds From Sierra Leone and Can't Tell Me Nothin and Flashing Lights.
He starts to explore the planet a little and finds these space creatures, that were a little creepy. Here's were his arrogance starts to come in. He introduces himself to the aliens as, "Well, my name is Kanye-to-the." HA! I was dying laughing! I love it!! The aliens respond, "Well of course we know who you are. You're the most famous person in the universe." Really tho? The Universe? HAHA! Love it! The aliens decide to help him and power his ship with shooting stars. Out of nowhere, the center of the stage lifts and lights up like a spaceship. I couldn't believe it.

While he's traveling through space, he performs Spaceship back from College Dropout, another classic. Unfortunately, the shooting stars don't have enough power for his ship and he crash lands back on the planet. "Warning. Warning. Not enough power. Re-entering atmosphere." Jane just keeps giving him bad news. While they are falling back to the planet, he goes into All Falls Down. OH MY GOD AGAIN! Thats like my other most favorite Kanye West song! The video screen was crazy during this song. It was like tumbling through space, and he fell fast and hard. It was amazing.

He crash lands on the planet, and he is horrified at this point. He doesn't know if he'll ever make it home. Kanye starts feeling lonely and Jane decides that she can help with that... the video screen turns into this woman painted gold and dancing. Gold Digger! Yes! From Gold Digger he did Good Life, which he made us repeat the last hook like 12 times. No joke. I'm like, aight 'Ye, we get it it. The Good Life. Let's move on.

"Warning. System Shutdown. Not enough power." "NO! JANE NO! DON'T LEAVE ME!...God? Please help me get home. I swear if you just get me home I'll act right. I'll stop spazzing out at award shows, I swear, I'll stop talking so much shit..." And then Jesus Walks starts playing. There's a crazy storm going on in the background on the screen and Kanye is putting his heart into Jesus Walks. Then he performed Hey Mama, the live Grammy version. Everyone was respectful singing along quietly, holding their phones in the air, no screaming until he started calling for it during the "I wanna scream so loud for you" part. Do I think he's still riding the "my mommy died" train a little hard, yes I do. But he gets a pass cause this tour is immediately after that. If he keeps doing it on future tours, I might have to call him on it lol.
He's so lonely at this point, he's sitting on the ground almost in tears. Damn he knows how to work a crowd cause we were screaming trynna cheer him up like that shit was real! All of a sudden begins a piano melody everyone knows...it's Journey's Don't Stop Believing! Yo I went crazy with everyone else. All 20,000 of us are screaming "JUST A SMALL TIME GIRL, LIVING IN A LONELY WORLD. SHE TOOK THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN GOING ANYWHERE! DON'T STOP, BELIEVING!" at the top of our lungs. C'MON KANYE! YOU CAN DO THIS! He had us really feeling for him.

While the song is playing, Jane, on her last bit of power speaks. "You can't give up now. We've come all this way. The shooting stars didn't give us enough power. We need something even stronger. We need the biggest and brightest star of them all. We need you. We need you, Kanye." The hottest intro to Stronger I've ever heard starts playing. I can't put it into words. The whole instrumentation of the live versions of these songs was amazing, but Stronger just shitted on everything else. Stronger starts finally playing and his ship powers up one last time, and it works! He's hurdling through space at light speed and I swear, I really felt like, "Yea! He's gonna make it! It works! IT WORKS!"

Finally, the stage goes dark one more time. I'm standing there like, that can't be the last song! C'mon! But you can see him standing on stage because his sneakers glow in the dark. Oh yes, those Air Yeezy's. He's standing there for a good 2 minutes in the dark with the crowd screaming, and finally Homecoming starts playing! Yes, he's going home for real this time! We can't believe it. He ends the show with Homecoming and runs off stage, while in the background on the screen you can see he's finally made it back to earth. Best show of my life!

THEN HE COMES BACK!! Touch The Sky for an encore! YES! The last time I saw Kanye was on his Touch The Sky tour back in 2005. And of course, Lupe comes out to do the song with him. Lupe came back out, and we went crazy all over again!

Best show of my life. Hands down. I need that to be on DVD so I can watch it over and over again. I hear that he's actually putting a similar show together in Las Vegas, based on this tour. He won't be there, but it will be the same concept, almost like a Broadway show except Kanye West based on this tour. I'm really sad that some people couldn't make the show. I know like 5 of you and I really hope his next tour is just as good or better. I'm still recovering. My shoulders hurt, my voice is weak, i slept till noon today and I've been typing this for the last hour. But I hope if you didn't get a change to go that this gave you an idea, and didn't make you jealous. Cause you should be. HAHA.

Alright, now for my Sunday. Damn, what is life after a Kanye West show like? Boring, that's what.
